You will need |
1 large egg 1 pinch of salt 1 teaspoon of vinegar 1 slice of buttered toast |
||
What to do |
1. Fill a large pan with water to a depth of about 2 inches (5 cm). Using boiled water from a kettle is quicker than waiting for cold water to boil over the stove. 2. Bring the water to a gentle boil over a medium heat on the stove. 3. Add the vinegar and salt to the water. 4. Carefully crack open the egg and put it on a plate or saucer. 5. Gently slide the egg off the plate and into the water, trying not to break the yolk. 6. Time the cooking as follows. 3 minutes for a very soft egg, 4 minutes for an egg with a soft middle, and 5 minutes or more for a very firm egg. 7. When the cooking has finished, remove the egg from the pan using a spoon (one with holes in it is best). 8. Dry the egg on a sheet of kitchen paper if it is still wet, and place it on top of a warm slice of buttered toast. |
